Position Overview:

The GA position is Mission-aligned and supports increased access and opportunity supportive of AIC’s undergraduates from diverse backgrounds, who are predominantly first-generation college students. Additionally, the position’s emphasis is on providing critical peer supports connected to academic leadership and graduate programs in ways that facilitate undergraduate retention, persistence, and academic success. The position (Urban Education Pathways) reports directly to the dean.

Duties

  • Collaborate with SOE academic team to enhance SOE communications and campus outreach at the undergraduate level (including public relations, social media, support systems, and special events); facilitate increased student engagement and successful entry into SOE graduate programs; recommend service-related initiatives, new programs, and possibilities for enhanced campus/academic experience.
  • Additionally, in consultation with SOE dean and administrative assistant, effectively assess student situations and offer first level mediation.
  • Also, coordinate initiatives and events for Urban Pathways Program in collaboration with designated academic leaders; champion student success and enhanced performance linked to pre-requisites for successful entry into SOE MEd licensure and degree-only programs.
  • Likewise, in coordination with the Assistant Dean, Assessment & Accreditation, develop and maintain effective records/assessment tools aligned with the role assigned. Also, routinely collect, summarize, and report data specific to undergraduate services performed and the effectiveness of outreach efforts.

Qualifications

  • Admittance into an approved AIC graduate program.
  • Additionally, completed Undergraduate Education
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with higher education protocols.
  • Ability to make discerning, ethical decisions; to take direction from academic leaders and act responsibly on behalf of the unit and campus. Demonstrated prior success supporting undergraduates for campus and community-based initiatives, preferably in urban education.
  • Also, customer service oriented with strong relationship-building skills, including prior success working with undergraduates who are first-generation and/or from low-income and diverse backgrounds. Likewise, knowledge and use of campus resources and internal processes supporting student success.
  • Likewise, a conceptual, creative, and innovative thinker with strong attention to detail. Ability to clarify expectations with accuracy to multiple audiences, including faculty, staff, and students. Also, the ability to support student development and make critical connections to campus/community resources for their educational advancement and career/ professional success.
  • Furthermore, commitment to access, equity, and diversity, with the capacity to inspire inclusive excellence and work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and campus/community stakeholders. Ability to foster student engagement and positive social change.

Salary: Total Stipend is $4,500/semester plus a tuition waiver of up to 12 credits/semester
