Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Affairs, the Academic Counselor provides academic advising to prospective and current students in the self-supporting Master programs. Additionally, the incumbent assists with the interpretation of University policies including admission, registration, add/drop, waivers and substitutions, grade changes, leaves of absence, and academic probation. Likewise, he/she tracks students’ progress ensuring that requirements are met.

Qualifications

Demonstrated skill in evaluating information, problems, and situations to – define the problem – identify relevant factors and concerns – recognize alternatives – formulate solutions – initiate a plan of action Skill in managing time and setting priorities in an environment of frequent interruptions and distractions. Similarly, skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. Additionally, the ability to use initiative and discretion in dealing with students and prospective students. Also, the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff in a tactful and productive manner. Furthermore, experience working with students in an advising, counseling, or similar environment.

Preferred:

Knowledge of University Policies and Procedures, UCI academic and student support services, Academic Senate Rules and Regulations, Family Rights Privacy Act. Knowledge of Bren School policies, graduate programs, and self-supporting programs. Master’s degree or equivalent experience.

Compensation Range:

Hourly: $21.54 – $29.29
