Summary

The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for providing leadership for the cheer team.  Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include coaching, planning, organizing, recruiting and adherence to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Lone Star Conference and the NCAA.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will have the following duties

• Administer cheer try-outs each Spring for the following academic year
• Order all uniforms
• Also, organize cheer camp or clinic during Summer
• Organize youth cheer clinic during Fall Semester
• Likwise, kids’ cheer clinic during Fall semester
• Order cheer materials including, but not limited to: megaphones, signage, poms, hair accessories, marketing material, stick poms
• Administer mascot try-outs each Spring for the following academic year
• Make all travel arrangements for any out-of-town games (all sports) cheer squad attends
• Schedule all cheer squad appearances for athletic events including football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball
• Also, schedule all cheer squad appearances for team send-offs
• Schedule all testing and assessments prior to try-outs and prior to activity with Athletic Training office and Student Health Services
• Likewise, cheer camps for local middle schools and high schools for cheer squad to administer
• Schedule appearances for cheer squad for special events on campus including Pride Walk, Homecoming, Pep Rally, community service events, etc.

Qualifications

The incumbent must meet the given requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
• Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Cheer coaching experience. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student-athletes academically and athletically.
• Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Also,  to work with a wide variety of people. Ability to travel and work on nights and weekends.
