For initial appointments, the Court offers a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension (six month probationary period).
A roster of suitable candidates may be established for this post as a result of this selection process for fixed-term appointments against both established posts and positions funded by general temporary assistance (GTA).
Organizational Context
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Division of Management Services, the principal functions of the ICC Security & Safety Section are:
- Protection off all ICC premises, property and courtroom functions through the strict control of access and egress and the maintenance of an armed uniformed protection force.
- Moreover, management and control of all electronic security and surveillance protection systems operated at the seat of the Court.
- Similarly, safe handling and custody of all accused persons whilst detained at the seat of the Court.
- Background investigative screening of staff, contractors and other support workers to ensure the reliability and integrity of personnel assigned in a security sensitive environment.
- Also, to promote the safety and security of ICC staff and its investigative and judicial processes; including through coordination and liaison with the security agencies of the host country, member states and international organizations.
Duties:
- Assists and delivers training in various security and safety related topics.
- Also, ensures the safe custody of accused persons by supervision the close security escorts to prisoners.
- Conducts physical searches of the premises in response to threats or as a preventative security measure.
- Additionally, as a shift supervisor, ensures the initial response to emergencies, technical alarms, security alarms or other reports requiring security and safety intervention.
- Likewise, provides first aid and “first responder” medical assistance to injured or ill persons at the seat of the Court.
- Provides security escorts to witnesses, VIP’s or other dignitaries whilst at the seat of the Court.
- Moreover, maintains the administrative records in relation to leave, compensatory time, overtime, night differential, other entitlements or other administrative requirements for the subordinate security personnel.
- Reports infractions of ICC rules or breaches through the chain of command.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Required:
- Formal training and certifications in supervisory or team leader tasks and previous experience in such capacity in a national police, military or international organization or corporate security service.
- Also, training, knowledge and experience in operating modern security screening equipment for screening persons and items.
- Training, knowledge and experience in working in a security control center with modern intrusion detection and CCTV, access control, communications and fire alarm, evacuation and emergency systems.
- Likewise, Computer Literacy.
- Training knowledge and experience in investigations and techniques involved.
- Additionally, Radio Communications.
- Training in arrest and restraint techniques and tactics.
- Furthermore, Training in fire prevention and firefighting.
