Position Summary

The Supervising Research Scientist will oversee the implementation of Research Protocols and Research Operations at International Sites. Additionally, the Research projects include identifying and validating biomarkers of disease, treatment failure, and risk of progression to disease; examining the role of malnutrition on tuberculosis disease, and understanding the mechanism of diversity in the transmission of M. tuberculosis clinical strains.

Duties

  • Designs, develops, and standardizes immunological assays to study the role of the human immune response to tuberculosis.
  • Additionally, the incumbent disseminates data through publications in scientific journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Also, he/she maintains and develops collaborations with International partners.
  • Organizes electronic records, data files, and databases related to studies and experiments. Assists in data analysis and presentation of findings at weekly team meetings and at larger meetings with collaborative partners (the US and international).
  • Furthermore, he/she follows established bio-safety protocols and maintains compliance with biosafety regulations/requirements for BSL-3.
  • Likewise, coordinates with data center tracking of specimens in the biorepository and QC.
  • Assists with MTAs, shipping of laboratory reagents to sites, and shipping specimens to the US as necessary.
  • Similarly, supervises and manages assigned staff and research staff at the international research laboratories.
  • Also, works cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. Degree in Immunology or related field plus two (2) years of experience in immunology.
  • Also, experience with immunological assays.
  • Likewise, experience working in a BSL3 facility.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong excellent writing skills. Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills, management, and administrative skills.
