The position for Data Engineer in the Operations and Information Systems Section of the Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF).
Responsibilities
Manage individual projects regarding the optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of sources into data pipelines, as well as the creation and maintenance of data catalogues
Create, maintain, and optimize the managed data pipelines consisting of a series of stages as workloads move from development to production for specific use cases.
Design and develop solutions for data-related technical problems and data infrastructure needs surfacing by Executive, Analytics and Design teams; and provide training in data pipelining and preparation techniques.
Manage the identification, design, and implementation of internal process improvements
Deploy resources to extract data features from complex datasets for data scientists and data analysts
Manage the implementation of changes to data systems to ensure compliance with data governance, protection, privacy, and security requirements
Knowledge of data analysis life cycle from ingest and wrangling to analysis and visualization to present findings.
Also has the knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service.

has the ability in managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients along with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.

Ability to convey complex / difficult data science topics to clients in a relatable manner.
Can apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.

Moreover, possess the ability to adjust priorities, allocate time and resources, foresee risks and allow for contingencies when planning.
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field.
Selection criteria also may accept a first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience in place of an advanced university degree.
Work Experience Requirements
A minimum of five years of experience in data management, integration, modelling, optimization, and other relevant areas.
Also a minimum of five years of experience in designing data integration and pipeline architectures.
Experience supporting cross-functional teams and collaborating with stakeholders in support of analytics initiatives.
A few Experience in programming languages as well as database programming languages.
Also has experience in DataOps toolchains or equivalent tools as well as with the deployment of data pipelines.
In addition, experience in delivering big data use cases is desirable.
Experience in Artificial Intelligence, particularly Machine Learning techniques for data mining and extraction of large amounts of data is desirable.
Moreover, experience working with self-service analytics applications is also desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
