The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organization in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. It is an international development organization owned and governed by the 26 country and territory members.

Benefits

SPC provides a housing allowance of FJD 1,350–3,000 per month. Job Summary

The Curator will be responsible for the staff in the Centre for Pacific Crops and Trees (CePaCT) Genebank, ensuring the effective and efficient management of ex-situ collections of plant genetic resources. Additionally, the incumbent will also collaborate with key institutions in the Pacific and globally and will facilitate and monitor the availability of crop and tree species to all users and requestors following proper agreements.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Management of CePaCT genebank activities
  • Also, Genebank Quality Management System & Documentation
  • Likewise, technical advice and networking
  • Also, Program Management Support

Key selection criteria Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree in science with a specialization in botany, genetics, or sustainable management of plant genetic resources

Knowledge and experience

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar role or demonstrated project management and staff supervision experience
  • Also, expertise in research areas relevant to the conservation of clonal crops in tissue culture and cryopreservation
  • Likewise, good understanding of international plant genetic resources intellectual property and phytosanitary issues as well as other legal issues related to relevant international treaties and gene bank operations

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to publish in international peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Also, experience in computational and statistical tools for the management of genetic resources information
  • Experience in fund-raising, proposal preparation and project management
  • Likewise, proven ability to motivate inspire and promote teamwork in an interdisciplinary, multicultural, and regional context

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) with a working knowledge of French being an advantage

Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness

  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment
