The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asian and Pacific region. Also, ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy oriented research and analysis, normative support and technical assistance and capacity building, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.
Duties:
- Initiates, processes, monitors, reviews and follows-up on actions related to the administration of the clients’ human resource activities, e.g., recruitment of consultants, placement, performance appraisal, training etc., ensuring consistency in the application of regulations and procedures.
- Also, provides advice and guidance to staff with respect to administrative procedures, processes and practices, liaising with central administrative services as necessary.
- Moreover, maintains and reviews organizational staffing tables; prints and reviews IMIS reports.
Budget and Finance
- Monitors status of expenditures and allotments, records variations, updates budget tables.
- Reviews status of relevant expenditures and compares with approved budget.
- Also, reviews requisitions for goods and services to ensure (a) correct objects of expenditure have been charged and (b) availability of funds.
- Additionally, assists in the preparation of budget performance submissions.
- Likewise, prepares statistical tables and standard financial reports.
General Administration
- Prepares, processes and follows-up on administrative arrangements and forms related to the official travel of staff.
- Also, drafts routine correspondence.
- Maintains files of rules, regulations, administrative instructions and other related documentation.
- Moreover, maintains up-to-date work unit files (both paper and electronic).
- Coordinates extensively with service units and liaises frequently with internal team members both at Headquarters and in the field.
