Duties

Reporting to the Head of the Space Segment Section, your main duties include:

  • initiating, monitoring and controlling, in collaboration with the Procurement Department, the Strategic Programme Line managers and other relevant Departments of ESA, of ARTES Core Competitiveness (CC) and other ARTES Programme line activities related to Space Segment technology and product development for satellite communications;
  • Also, supporting activities of other ARTES Programme Elements and the creation/implementation of partnership projects;
  • Likewise, reporting regularly on the progress, status, schedule and outcome of ARTES activities, including realistic forecasting of milestone-completion dates;
  • identifying and defining future Satcom system and service trends to define Space Segment product and technology needs;
  • Similarly, supporting the promotion of ARTES CC and ARTES socio-economic impact analysis;
  • monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends, maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
  • Additionally, contributing to the dissemination of results of activities performed and knowledge transfer across the Agency and externally with management approval.

Qualifications

Technical competencies

  • Experience in managing space segment technology and product development activities carried out by industry for commercial satellite communication applications
  • Additionally, knowledge of ESA and industrial development, verification and procurement processes
  • Likewise, knowledge of Satcom space segment system architectures, products and market
  • Also, of space propulsion technologies, preferably in the context of space telecommunication applications.

Education

A Master’s degree in engineering is required.

Additional requirements

Experience in satellite communications space segment technology and product definition and development, as well as propulsion system or subsystem design and development. Experience in the satellite telecommunication industry would be a distinct advantage. Additionally, you should also demonstrate strong negotiation skills and contract/subcontract management experience.

Furthermore, you must be eligible to obtain security clearance from national authorities.
