Apply for the Vacancy for Volunteer at CHAI in Sierra Leone. The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries while strengthening the capabilities of governments and the private sector in those countries to create and sustain high-quality health systems that can succeed without our assistance.

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a volunteer epidemiological/geospatial data manager. The volunteer will support CHAI team efforts to build, maintain, and update its comprehensive malaria database in Cambodia. The volunteer will be responsible for developing datasets at various spatial units, establishing and maintaining a coding system, merging data from multiple data sources.

Duties

The incumbent will do the following duties

Data management

  • Audit the data currently available to identify gaps and targets of cleaning/validating (e.g. mismatching health facility codes and names)
  • Clean spatial unit databases (e.g. validating/updating unit codes and names) to join to existing surveillance and programmatic data
  • Develop a codebook and data dictionary to streamline data merge and cleaning process

Data analysis

  • Summarize merge results from surveillance and geospatial data, including missing data and relevant limitations for analysis
  • Provide descriptive analysis for CHAI-supported areas to support ongoing M&E efforts
  • Conduct an independent analysis based on available data

Communications

  • Create a standard operating procedure for geospatial data management to document data merges, cleaning steps, and best practices
  • Additionally, present final analysis results to CHAI MAST and CHAI Cambodia staff, including PowerPoint presentations (delivered remotely) and findings report and so on…

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of analytical experience
  • Also, detail-oriented with strong organization skills
  • Strong problem solving, data management and analytic skills
  • Likewise, experience managing large datasets including cleaning, validating and merging
  • Similarly, statistical software package experience (R, STATA, SAS)
  • Also, experience working with epidemiological data and indicators
  • Experience working with geospatial data (shapefiles, rasters, etc.) in Google Earth, QGIS, ArcGIS and/or other relevant software
  • Additionally, a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Also, excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise summaries and compelling presentations.
