WHO is looking for a mental health technical Officer in the WHO office in Cairo, Egypt. It is an on-sight job but it is for legal residents only. The job will be of 12 months contract but you can further extend it. The recruited officer is expected to work with the Sustainable Development Goal of ‘Good Health and Well-being’.
Furthermore, the selected candidate will be expected to start on 16 Jan 2022.
Task description
The Mental Health Technical officer will be under the direct supervision of the regional advisor for mental health and substance use at the Regional Office, Ministry of Health, Directorates of Health, UN/NGO partners and across the organization.
Collect, validate and analyze the data from Member states for Eastern Mediterranean Country Resources for Mental health neurological and substance use disorders
Coordinate with the departmental communication officer to maintain an updated mental health and substance use website of WHO/EMRO
Support the MNH team in conducting the meetings during the period of assignment
Support the global and regional initiatives and partnerships with civil society organizations, sister UN agencies and EMRO programmes
Also assist in drafting, reviewing formatting and editing technical documents and information products policy briefs, tool kits, guides/manuals, hand-outs, brochures and reports
If required, perform other relevant tasks.
Furthermore, UN officers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment as well as promote voluntary action through engagement with communities.
Should be familiar with and build on traditional or local forms of volunteerism in the host country
Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities
Should also contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers
Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Furthermore, the applicant should hold a master degree or equivalent in Mental health or social sciences. (Public health qualification will be an added plus.)
Requirements
3-5 years of experience in mental health and substance use programming.
Experience working in the Humanitarian context and emergencies would be an asset.
Also has a good knowledge of WHO strategic documents and guidelines, inter-agency standards in the area of mental health and substance use
Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively in written and spoken English. Moreover, knowledge of Arabic and French is desirable.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel
computer literate
familiarity with database management and office technology equipment
Self-motivated and also has the ability to work with tight deadlines
Have affinity with or interest in mental health, neurological and substance use
