The University of Southampton is a research university located in Southampton, England. Southampton is a founding member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities in Britain. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, the university was ranked 18th in the United Kingdom for the average quality of research submitted, 11th for research power and 8th for research intensity. Moreover, the University of Southampton postgraduate by research and taught postgraduate are highly competitive postgraduate programs.

The university has seven teaching campuses. The main campus is located in the Highfield area of Southampton and is supplemented by four other campuses within the city: Avenue Campus housing the Faculty of Humanities, the National Oceanography Centre housing courses in Ocean and Earth Sciences, Southampton General Hospital offering courses in Medicine and Health Sciences, and Boldrewood Campus an engineering and maritime technology campus housing also the university’s strategically Lloyd’s Register.

The University of Southampton postgraduate scholarships is merit awards for international masters students.  You may also be eligible for funding that is specific to students from your country. This includes funding made available through the University’s international partnerships with external organizations. Moreover, the beneficiary of Southampton Merit Scholarship will receive an amount up to £5,000.

These will vary depending on your course, but could include:

  • your degree certificate(s) (and translated version if necessary)
  • degree transcript(s)(and translated version if necessary)
  • English language qualification (if applicable)
  • two references

To apply for your chose postgraduate research course use our online application form.

  2. Further, Check you meet the general entry requirements, and, if relevant, make sure you meet any special requirements for international students.
  3. Also, Find out about scholarships and sources of funding.
  4. Apply online

Most programmes require additional supporting documentation during the application process. You can upload these documents with the online application form.

The University will not make a Decision regarding admissions until your application is complete.

You will receive an e-mail as soon as the University confirms your application.

Application deadlines

There is no University deadline for applications for taught programmes, however, some faculties may have their own application deadlines. Most courses start in September but some faculties may be able to consider late applications to the current cycle. Should you wish to make a late application for postgraduate taught programmes please contact the appropriate Faculty directly.
