Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year is open for entries!

Judging will take place throughout those months and for the month of May 2022, and the winners will be announced in early June 2022.

Prizes

• The winner will receive a cash prize of USD5,000
• Two runners-up will also receive a cash prize of USD2,500 each
• The overall winner and the two runners-up along with their partners will enjoy a group safari with CEO Simon Espley and his wife Lizz.
• In addition, 5 nights all paid in Khwai Private Reserve, Botswana in two of Natural Selection’s camps;  Little Sable and Hyena Pan with a night at the extraordinary Skybeds. This group of eight will enjoy exclusive access to a fantastic sunken photographic hide.

Eligibility

1. Entrants must be 18 years and older.
2. Photos that have at any time before the finalization of this competition won other photographic competitions are ineligible.
3. Entrants that are previous winners of this competition may enter in subsequent years.
4. Employees of Africa Geographic and its sponsors may not enter.

How to enter?

• Entries may be submitted by email ([email protected]) or via our online entry form.
• Entries should not exceed 2MB in size (per photo)
• Also, multiple entries are eligible.
• Entries must be in JPG or PNG format.
• AG may request RAW and higher resolution photos, and refusal will result in that photo being disqualified and any awarded prizes forfeited.
• In addition, do not add borders or copyright watermarks
• Entries should be a faithful representation of the original scene.
• Use Post-production adjustments appropriately and you must not deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality. No composite images will be permitted.
• Also, provide EITHER your Facebook OR Instagram username/handle (@username) if you would like us to tag you if/when we share your photo.
• Please label each of your photographs in the following order:
  • Your Full name.subject/species.Location. 
  • For example; John Smith.mountain gorilla.Bwindi.
• Moreover, provide a brief description/caption for your photographs.

Subject matter

• Entrant photos should be from the African continent or associated islands. Only entries that are of African wildlife, landscapes, and/or culture will be eligible.
• Entries depicting wildlife should be of “wild” animals and also note that no photos of captive wildlife will be eligible.
• Photos of rescue/rehabilitation animals can be eligible at the sole discretion of the organizer.
• Also, you should always obtain permission from your subjects if you take photos of people. This may involve negotiating a fee. Moreover, do not take any photos of minors (under the age of 18) without permission from a parent or guardian. By submitting your photos to us you confirm that the necessary permissions were obtained.
