Enter the DepicT! 2022 Competition with your short video in any genre with any budget! The competition is open to all and moreover, it is free! However,  there is ONE simple rule:

Your film MUST be 90 seconds or less in duration.

DepicT! Royal Photographic Society Cinematography Award

  • £1000 cash

DepicT! 2022 British Award

  • A special package of support which will both promote the winning 90-second film as well as further develop the filmmaker’s skills including:
    • Access to some key BAFTA events
    • Also, a place on a short course at the National Film and Television School in 2022-23, subject to availability
    • Exposure on the BFI NETWORK industry platform, a one to one with Head of BFI NETWORK Jessica Loveland as well as a discounted pass to the BFI London Film Festival
    • In addition, lifetime membership to Shooting People

DepicT! Random Acts Award

  • A mentoring session with Channel 4 Random Acts commissioning editor Shaminder Nahal.


All shortlisted films get:

  • Film exposure and promotion through depict.org, at Encounters Film Festival, as well as through associated partners
  • A Festival pass for the upcoming digital edition of Encounters Film Festival
  • Moreover, half-price Shooting People membership for the shortlisted filmmakers

Entry Requirements

  • Only films submitted online will be accepted.
  • The duration of your film(s) must not exceed 90 seconds including titles and credits.
  • Depict is open to short films of all production techniques. However, advertisements are ineligible.
  • Also, only films completed since January 2021 may be submitted.
  • The maximum number of entries per individual is five.
  • The primary contact completing the submission process must be authorized to submit the film(s) and must have obtained necessary permissions for the inclusion of copyrighted music and/or images within the films.
  • In addition, if the original language is not English, ensure that the film includes English subtitles.
  • You will also need to supply a high-resolution version of your film, publicity stills, a synopsis, and a bio if your film(s) is/are shortlisted.
  • Only the director(s) will gain credit on the website and any other promotional material.
  • The Depict British Special Mention Award is open to UK productions only. Films are only eligible if they have a substantial British contribution in the following areas:
    • director
    • producer
    • writer
    • principal cast and crew
    • production company
    • finance
