Documentary Africa (DocA) has a history of supporting African filmmakers across various stages of their projects. With the launch of the Shoot Your Short, they are excited to start on their venture into supporting short-form documentary content.
They offer comprehensive financial support for various stages of documentary filmmaking, including Development, Production, Postproduction, and Impact Production, specifically targeting filmmakers and producers from the African continent. This support is aimed at fostering the creation of impactful and high-quality documentary films that capture important stories and issues relevant to Africa. In addition to direct financial assistance for individual film projects, they also extend their support to documentary organizations operating within the continent. These organizations can benefit from project support that encompasses a wide range of activities designed to enhance the filmmaking ecosystem. This includes providing funding and resources for Training initiatives such as workshops, residencies, and labs, which are crucial for skill development and capacity building. They also offer Mentorship opportunities to guide and support filmmakers throughout their projects. Furthermore, they facilitate Festivals and Film Markets, providing platforms for filmmakers to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals, and gain valuable exposure. Through these diverse forms of support, they aim to nurture the growth of the documentary film industry in Africa, encouraging the production of compelling narratives that contribute to a deeper understanding of the continent’s dynamic landscape.
