The CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year Award showcases the very best in environmental photography. Moreover, the photography competition highlights the terrible impacts being wrought on our planet by its most dominant species. Further, the competition also celebrates humanity’s innate ability to survive and innovate, lending hope to us all that we can overcome challenges to live sustainably. The competition supports the urgent calls to action of the United Nations SDGs. It also recognizes the intricate interconnected nature of development, poverty reduction, equality, security, and climate action as well as the unprecedented effort from all sectors of society needed to tackle the defining issues of our time.
The competition encourages entries that are contemporary, creative, resonant, challenging, original and beautiful, but most of all, images that will inspire people around the world to start taking care of our environment.
Entrants may submit photographs into six categories. The jury will select winners from each category and award them with:
The photography competition is open to all, unrestricted by borders. The competition is open for citizens of all nationalities. Moreover, CIWEM encourages environmentalist who has a passion for conservation may enter the competition. However, entrants must be over the age of 18 years to enter the international photography competition.
Entrants below the age of 18 years may also enter the competition. However, they will require consent from their guardians.
Entrants may submit their photographs through the online entry. Moreover, the participants of the international photography competition will require to fill a form which requires providing personal information. Next, the entrants may upload their photographs while making the application.
Additionally, the competition is free to enter. Hence, entrants do not need to pay any charge for entering their work. However, an entrant may only submit 10 photographs.
Entrants may submit their photographs for Environmental Photographer of the Year Awards until June 30, 2019.
