Ottawa International Animation Festival invites application for Short Animation Film in Ottawa. The International Short Animation Film Festival is an annual event that provides a platform for young movie makers, who are in the prime of their career. The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is one of the leading events of its kind in the world.   It’s an annual five-day event that has been bringing the animation community together in a vibrant hub since 1976.  With a total attendance of 28,000, it attracts artists, producers, students and animation fans from around the world.   Check out the 80+ screenings, talks, and exhibits presented in venues across downtown Ottawa.

Benefits

Remuneration: By submitting your film to the selection process you agree to accept screening fees no greater than those outlined in the IMAA Fee Schedule ($263 CAD for the first screening and $131 CAD per screening thereafter). If selected for the competition the Festival cannot pay fees higher than the above amounts.

Further, the Festival will have three juries: one international jury for the feature; one for the independent, student, commissioned competitions and VR; and one Children’s Jury comprised of 6-13-year-olds to judge the young audience competition finalists. The Juries will judge the movie and provide prizes in a number of categories including Grand Prize for Best Animated Feature and Grand Prize for Best Short Animation Category.

Eligibility

  • There is no entry or registration fee.
  • Likewise, Applicants must submit animated films made after May 25th, 2018
  • Further, You must submit your entry form online through your OIAF login account.
  • Moreover, Your preview film must be submitted on a streamable URL link. The link must remain accessible until the end of July.
  • Applicants may submit an International movie. However, the entrant must provide the subtitles of the film which has dialogues that is not English.
  • Director’s photograph (300 dpi), biography and 3 stills from the film (300 dpi) are desirable.
  • Applicants must send a high-definition Quicktime .mov file (H264 or ProRes only, resolution 1920×1080) in case of selection.
  • We can accept DCP, however, we require a .mov file as well in order to screen at our non-DCP venues as needed.
  • The festival no longer accepts 35mm, Betacam SP or any other tape format as screening copies.
  • All films selected for the festival must be received by Friday, August 8th, 2019 or you risk disqualification.

How To Apply

The applicants may submit an online entry form along with their movie (URL, or online Upload) before the deadline. Since the registration is free, anyone may apply for the competition.

Deadline

Applicants do not require to pay the entry fee. Further, the applicants must submit the entry form and final preview URL online by 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) on May 31st, 2019. The entrant must include the director’s biography, director’s photo (300 dpi) a minimum of 3 stills (300 dpi) and a trailer from the film where applicable. These files can be uploaded online, submitted on disc or emailed.
