Submissions for the 2020 Lexus Design Awards are open. Lexus invites today’s emerging design leaders to ‘Design for a Better Tomorrow’ for an extraordinary chance to achieve recognition and win exciting awards on the world stage. Now in its eighth year, Lexus Design Award provides a unique platform for young creators to demonstrate and further develop their talents. Founded in 2013 to support and foster up-and-coming creators, the program continues to evolve to inspire innovations in design that lead to a better tomorrow, and each year has seen a steady increase in the number of entries from across the world.

The Lexus Design Awards culminates in the announcement of the Grand Prix winner following prototype presentations by each of the six finalists. Prototype presentations and the announcement of the Grand Prix winner will happen on a world stage during Press Day at Milan Design Week.

Lexus Design Awards for a Better Tomorrow

The judges of the Lexus Design Awards for a Better Tomorrow will select 6 Finalists to attend Milan Design Week. During the event, the finalists will exhibit the prototypes of their proposals at the 2020 Lexus Design Event. At Milan, the 6 Finalists will present their works to a panel of esteemed judges and the judges will select one Grand Prix Winner.

Before exhibiting in Milan, the finalists will attend a workshop with world-class design professionals in New York City. These professionals will act as Mentors who will guide the participants to develop their prototypes. There will be continual follow-up by the Mentors as the Finalists develop their designs into physical prototypes. Moreover, Lexus will cover the prototype production costs up to 3 million JPY (over $25,000 USD), including tax.

The finalists will receive an Award Certificate and PR assistance through an Award Press Kit.

Eligibility for the Lexus Design Awards for a Better Tomorrow

Lexus Design Awards for Better tomorrow is open to professionals, students and design enthusiasts around the world. Entrants should be individuals who are of the majority age group in their home country. Last year, creators from 65 countries submitted design proposals, many of which leveraged the power of technology to design for a better tomorrow. Moreover, the submissions can span across the categories of Industrial Design, Architecture, Technology/Engineering, Interior Design, and Fashion Design.

However, employees and immediate family member of Lexus or Toyota Motor Groups employees are ineligible to participate.

How to participate in the Lexus Design Awards?

To participate in the Lexus Design Awards, candidates must, at first, register for the competition. Participants can register through Lexus’ online registration Portal. Further, the participants will require to complete necessary fields in the digital form, and upload their design.

The design may be in .JPG, .FLV or .GIF format. All digital files must be 500 KB or smaller and must be from 800~1000 pixels / 72 dpi, RGB color mode. FLV format video files must be max. 10 MB.

Deadline

The participants can register and submit their design in Lexus Design Awards for a Better Tomorrow until 14 October 2019. Applications arriving after the deadline are void.
