The seventh edition of LUMIX Festival for Young Visual Journalism will take place in Hanover from 24 to 28 June 2020. The ‘Verein zur Förderung visueller Medien e.V.’ in collaboration with the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography program at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the FREELENS journalists‘ association will be organizing the event.

On the occasion of the 7th LUMIX Festival for Young Photojournalism, we invite young photojournalists to take part in the competition for the FREELENS Award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. Two further projects will be distinguished, each with an honorable mention and 1,000 euros.
Furthermore, we will confer the Lammerhuber Award, the UmweltDruckerei Sustainability Prize and the HAZ Audience Prize on photo series selected from the exhibition.

Award prize

For the most outstanding multimedia web story, Panasonic will in 2020 again confer the LUMIX Digital Storytelling Award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros.

The best projects in both categories will be presented in 80 exhibitions during the Festival.

Conditions of Lumix Festival for Young Visual Journalism 2020

Photojournalists no older than 35 may submit their projects from 1 November 2019 until 31 January 2020. The submitted projects may not be older than two years or must have been completed within the past two years. The projects may have been created either by individual authors or as collaborative works. It is possible to apply for both categories (Photo Series / Photo Story and Digital Storytelling). Picture authors no older than 35 on the date of submission may participate in the program. Submissions may be from either individual authors or teams of authors. Provided most of the team members are no older than 35. Projects may be submitted only by the authors themselves.

Submissions must have been created after 1 November 2017. Submissions will be accepted in the period from 1 November 2019 up to and including 31 January 2020. During this period, the registration form will be available on our website.

All the jury’s decisions are binding.
