Details

Established in 1986, the NGS Rubincam Youth Writing Competition honors Milton Rubincam, CG, FASG, FNGS, for his many years of service to the National Genealogical Society and to the field of genealogy. These awards encourage and recognize youth as the next generation of family historians.

National Genealogical Society rewards students in either one or two age categories for an appropriately prepared genealogy. Moreover, NGS names up to two honorable mentions (runners-up) in each category. The awards are announced and presented at the annual NGS Banquet at the annual NGS Family History Conference. If the winners are not present, award presentations may be made at another agreed-upon time.

Winners of the NGS Rubincam Youth Writing Competition

The NGS runs Rubincam Youth Writing Contest in two categories of different age group: (a) High School Students; (b) Middle School Students

High school students in grades 9–12 at the time of submission. The award winner receives a $500 cash prize, a plaque, as well as a one-year NGS membership (non-print). Further, presentation details of the winning submission may appear in NGS Magazine.

Middle school students in grades 6–8 at the time of submission. The award winner receives a $250 cash prize, a plaque, as well as a one-year NGS membership (non-print). Further, presentation details of the winning submission may appear in NGS Magazine.

Eligibility for the NGS Rubincam Youth Writing Contest

Students are eligible to submit in the NGS Rubincam Youth Writing Competition if the are:

  • Young persons worldwide are eligible to apply.
  • Students must apply under the appropriate age/grade award.
  • However, students need not have an NGS membership.
  • All submission materials must be in English
  • Likewise, the submission must be original unpublished work
  • Further, students must note that the submissions become the property of NGS and are not returned.
  • Nor NGS returns the incomplete work
  • Are not eligible for later resubmission

Deadline

NGS accepts the submission for the Rubincam Youth Writing Contest 2020 until 15 December 2019. The National Genealogical Society doesn’t entertain late applications.
