SkyCity invites architects, designers, artists, engineers, scientists, conservationists, digital nomads, craftsmen or basically anyone with great ideas from around the globe to take part in the SkyCity Challenge 2019: The Future of Housing.  The current ways of building are affecting the environment we are living in. Moreover, they are limited and outdated. Now, with the modern technology available, it is possible to create far more sophisticated homes that could revolutionize the future of housing.

The new prefab construction prototype will be one of its kind, openly shared around the globe, with each location representing a unique culture among the world communities. The design competition is a hope to create a sustainable building set available to the cooperatives around the world. Therefore, SkyCity invites you to co-create this future of Housing.

What will the winners of the SkyCity Future housing challenge get?

A total of $15,000 USD fund is available to reward the best ideas. The jury will select 8 winners who will receive a dividend from the available fund. Moreover, the team which wins the first place will receive $5,000. Further, they will get an opportunity to co-live at the SkyCity Residence in Changsha, set in March of 2020. Also, the first prize winner will receive a grant of an additional $2,000 USD as traveling allowance and fully cover their stay in China (housing + food included).

The remaining winners will also receive cash prizes in various amounts

• Third Prize $2,000
• Fourth-Eighth Prize $1,000

Who can participate in the Future of Housing challenge 2019?

SkyCity Future of Housing Challenge 2019 is open for everyone. Therefore, participants from all over the world may enter the competition. Further, the participants must follow rules which include

• The entrants may be a team or an individual alone. In case, the participants enter as a team, the team may contain no more than 5 members at most.
• Also, at least one member of the group must be fluent in one of the three languages: English, Spanish, or Chinese. However, the entrants may submit entries in English only.
• Further, SkyCity encourages team members to have different fields of expertise.

How to apply for the SkyCity Future of Housing Competiton?

To apply for the competition, the applicants must at first register as a participant. The registration is available online. After registering for the competition, the entrants may submit their design project. The project must be in digital form. However, for presentation, the files will require printing. Hence, the participants should organize their project on 2 vertical printable boards in high quality.

The first project board should constitute the presentation about the system including pieces design/visualizations/ ways of assembly schemes. While the second project board should represent future Prefab Home, made out of your building set that fits into a traditional shipping container. Each board must include your verification ID number on its lower right-hand corner.

Deadline

SkyCity accepts the application for its future of Housing Challenge until 1 October 2019. Past the deadline, SkyCity doesn’t accept any application.
