The international Start-Up Energy Transition (SET) initiative invites young as well as innovative companies around the world to apply for the SET Awards 2020. The award is an initiative of the German Energy Agency (Dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council. The event in Stockholm was organized in cooperation with the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce and the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten). In the current round, the partner country Sweden, as well as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, supports the award.

Participants can submit the applications in five different categories:

• Renewable Energies & Materials,
• Digital Energy Systems
• Energy Efficiency Solutions
• Smart Mobility
• Special Prize: Quality Access & SDG-7.

In each category, the three most promising applicants will be invited to pitch their ideas at the annual summit of the SET Global Innovation Platform, the SET Tech Festival, in Berlin on 24 March 2020.

Start-Up Energy Transition Awards

The winners of the 2020 Start-Up Energy Transition Awards will receive a cash reward of €10,000 in each category. Further, the host will cover the flight and accommodation of all the finalists to attend the grand finale in Berlin.

Eligibility for the SET Awards

Candidates applying for the 2020 Start-Up Energy Transition Awards must abide by the following criteria:

• Applicants may only apply to one category. Moreover, all subsequent applications to other categories will be disqualified. This also applies to the Special Prize: Quality Access & SDG-7.
• The start-up must not have been founded longer than ten years ago. In other words, the date of the foundation cannot exceed 2009.
• The application as well as necessary documents, must be in English.
• The start-up must be able to present a functioning prototype. In addition, the applicant must be able to present a legal framework, proof of concept or a client, and/or an industrial/corporate/institutional partner.
• Also, the applicant must fill out the entire form. Partially completed applications, however, are not acceptable.

How to apply for the Start-Up Energy Transition Awards?

Participants for the 2020 Start-Up Energy Transition Awards can apply to enter in one of the five categories. The participants must meet the eligibility criteria and complete the entire form. The forms are available separately in the categories as:

Deadline

The 2020 SET Awards is available for application until 15 January 2020. Submissions after the deadline is, however, unacceptable.
