The Alfred Fried Photography Award recognizes and promotes photographers from all over the world whose pictures capture human efforts towards a peaceful world and the quest for beauty and goodness in our lives. Moreover, the award goes to those photographs that best express the idea that our future lies in peaceful coexistence. The Alfred Fried Photography Award is organized by Photographische Gesellschaft (PHG) and Edition Lammerhuber in partnership with UNESCO, Austrian Parliament, Austrian Parliamentary Reporting Association, International Press Institute (IPI), German Youth Photography Award and the World Press Photo Foundation.

Awards + Prizes

The top five listed photographers will receive the Alfred Fried Photography Award Medal. The Peace Image of the Year will receive €10,000. The winning picture will be on display for one year at the Austrian Parliament. Further, it will be a part in the permanent art collection of the Austrian Parliament.

The Austrian Parliament will invite all winners to Vienna for the award ceremony on 12 September 2019. Moreover, all submitted images have the chance to take part in international exhibitions.

How to Enter the Photography Competition?

The Alfred Fried Photography Award is open to all photographers from anywhere in the world. To enter the competition applicants will require to register with their full name and their nationality. Moreover, applicaants may make a submission from 1 to 50 photographs without an overall theme. They may also submit up to 20 photographs as one story. The photographs must be a .jpeg file with the longest edge 3000px at least.

Applicants must submit all their photographs via online submission. The submission should include project title, description, year, and image title. Besides, the applicants may only submit the images from Apr 12, 2017 and Dec 31, 2019. Applicants may also submit their images from other competition.

Furthermore, there is no entry fee!

Deadline

The jury will judge the photographs on artistic merit, originality, subject and style. Applicants may submit their photographs no later than 3 June 2019, 3:44 AM. Applications arriving postdeadline are not eligible for the award.
