Tokyo Biennale Social Dive 2025: Apply Now for a Unique Art and Culture Experience in Japan

Applications are now open for the Tokyo Biennale Social Dive 2025, a fully funded international art festival set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from September to October 2025. This unique program invites artists from around the world to explore the city and connect with local communities through creative expression. The 2025 theme, “Shall we ‘Sanpo’?”, centers around the idea of walking, wandering, and discovering new perspectives through movement. Participants will engage in a “social dive,” immersing themselves in different areas of Tokyo and creating art that reflects deep interaction with the city and its people. All expenses are covered, and there is no application fee.

Purpose and Objective of the Program

Foster Deep Engagement with Tokyo: It provides an Opportunity for the Artist to deep dive into Tokyo City and connect with the Local community and explore their daily life, culture. This is called “SANPO” (wandering, strolling, exploring).

Generate Art Inspired by Tokyo’s Social Fabric: To encourage artists to create artworks that are directly influenced by their experiences and interactions within Tokyo.

Eligibility for Tokyo Biennale

• The Program is open to all Nationals.
• Artists residing outside Japan.
• Open to all ages over 18 years old.
• Selected artists must present their artwork at the Tokyo Biennale opening on October 17, 2025.
