World Bank invites proposal for Development Marketplace: Innovations to Address Gender-Based Violence 2020.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 35% of women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual partner violence or non-partner sexual violence, roughly 938 million women. Moreover, the costs of gender-based violence (GBV) are substantial. Violence against women and girls impedes their full participation in society, limits access to education and economic participation, as well as hinders efforts to achieve gender equality broadly.

The World Bank Group, as well as the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI), have partnered to address this global pandemic by launching the Development Marketplace to Address Gender-Based Violence. Further, the Development Marketplace awards teams from around the world with funds to support evidence-based research, interventions, and other activities related to GBV prevention and response.

The Awards, first launched four years ago, honor GBV victims and survivors, and are held in memory of Hannah Graham, daughter of longtime World Bank Group employee John Graham. Moreover, Development Marketplace 2020 invites innovation to reduce GBV in the areas of:

Winners of the Development Marketplace 2020

The winners of the Development Marketplace: Innovation Against Gender Violence will receive an award of US$100,000 each.

Eligibility for the Development Marketplace 2020

World Bank considers the candidates eligible for the Development Marketplace 2020: Innovation Against Gender Violence if they meet the following requirements.

  • Participants from all over the world are eligible to participate
  • Further, the participants must have considerable experience in research, intervention or other activities related to GBV Prevention and Response.
  • Moreover, participants from low to middle-income countries are preferable.

How to Participate in the Development Marketplace 2020?

The SVRI and the World Bank Group will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting colleagues to apply for funding. Applicants should apply after they meet the requirements and assessed whether their proposal is suitable for support under this call. Moreover, applicants may only submit the application via the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Awards online system.

Moreover, the candidates must include the following while filling up the application form.

  • Graphics and tables
  • CVs of Key Personnel
  • Project Plan
  • Budget
  • Capacity statement

Besides, only applications submitted via the online system before the given closing date and time will be considered.
