DESY Fully-funded Student Program in Germany. The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), a national research center in Germany invites candidates to apply for the DESY Summer Student Programme 2020. The Program dates from July 21 to September 10 of the year 2020. The DESY Summer Student Program offers undergraduate students in physics, related natural science disciplines or computing the possibility to participate in the research activities of the laboratory. Selected candidates join in the day-to-day work of research groups at the DESY Laboratory in Hamburg or Zeuthen (Berlin) and participate in many other activities.

Financial Aid

All the participating students are eligible for financial aid. In addition to that, DESY Summer Students will pay a subsistence allowance to cover living expenses as well as to cover the travel expenses for a single person.

Eligibilities

Please take note that due to regulations for paid traineeships in Germany DESY can only accept students that are enrolled at their university for the whole period of the summer student program.

• Applicants should have completed, by the summer of 2020, at least three years of full-time studies at university level in physics, related natural science disciplines or computing. DESY offers the majority of projects for physics students.
• The main target audiences are students who in summer 2020; about to obtain their Bachelor’s degree, or have a Bachelor’s degree and are within the first year of studies for a Master’s degree.
• Applicants who already obtained a master-degree or will obtain a master’s degree in 2020 are not eligible.
• Furthermore, applicants should not have previously been at DESY as a summer student.

Summer students join groups at DESY and European XFEL which address fundamental and applied questions in the fields of physics, biology, chemistry, crystallography, materials, and geological sciences, computing, and engineering. Moreover, this includes research with synchrotron radiation on molecules, soft matter, solid-state and nanomaterials, the development of new experimental techniques based on synchrotron radiation and lasers and the theory of interaction of matter and light.
