Details

The Royal Society provides International Exchange Schemes offers a flexible platform for UK based scientists to interact with the best scientists around the world. Funds for a contribution towards travel, subsistence and research expenses can be requested for either a one-off short visit to explore opportunities for building lasting networks or for bilateral visits to strengthen emerging collaborations. This scheme does not support continued research activities between a UK applicant and a co-applicant who was a former colleague or PhD student or to support other existing or recent collaborations between the applicant and co-applicant. Rather, the scheme intends to stimulate new collaborations between scientists in the UK and overseas.

Value and Support

The Standard Programme is available for travel to/from all countries outside the UK. The funding available is dependent upon the length of the visit. Applicants may request:

  • up to of £3,000 for one-off travel lasting up to three months;
  • up to £6,000 for multiple visits within one year (including a maximum of £1,500 for research expenses);
  • Further, funding up to £12,000 for multiple within two years and cost-share projects fixed at two years. Also, it includes a maximum of £3,000 for research expenses.

Eligibility

You can apply for this Royal Society International Exchange Scheme if both you and the overseas co-applicant:

  • hold a PhD or equivalent research experience
  • Likewise, hold a fixed or permanent contract at an eligible organization for the duration of the project. Ineligible organizations include industrial, private and commercial organizations, university spin-out companies and government bodies
  • Also, are based in the respective countries at the time of the application

Collaborations should be based on a single project and travel can only take place between the UK and a country where the overseas collaborator is based. In the case of cost share applications, applicants must establish a relationship between both parties prior to making an application.

How To Apply

To apply for the Royal Society International Exchange Program, applicants must make an online submission.
