The MuseumsLab Programme 2024 (Fully Funded)

The MuseumsLab is a curriculum designed to facilitate collaborative learning, networking, viewpoint sharing, and career development for professionals from Europe and Africa. Bringing them together to foster connections between people, organizations, countries, and two continents to have a meaningful conversation on how museums can address their history, serve the requirements of the modern world, and strive for a just and fair future.

Professionals from African and European museums with a minimum of two years’ experience in the field of museums, heritage, or art. The involvement in the entire 2024 plan. The program’s activities will run from June 6, 2024, to December 10, 2024.

  • Launch Events (Virtual): June 6
  • Module 1 (Virtual): June 11–13 & June 18–19
  • Module 2 (In-person in Berlin): September 4–12.
  • From September 12 to September (on-site, in Europe): 19Fellows allocated to a European Partner Museum are eligible to apply for residencies at European Partner.
  • During November 6–13 (on-site in Africa): Fellows assigned to an African Partner Museum will be living and working at African Partner Museums.
  • Module 3 (In-person in Accra): November 13–21
  • Online Closing Event: December 10

The applications will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of specialists from Europe and Africa. The following are the selection criteria:

Experiences and professional qualifications: Two years or more of hands-on experience in a museum, historic site, or creative space with an emphasis on subjects including natural sciences, technology, archaeology, architecture, and art.

Dedication to the program: Strong drive to participate actively in participation formats. The candidate must make a legally binding commitment to take part in all TheMuseumsLab activities before they may be chosen.

Language skills: Adequate language proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential to participate actively in the program.)

 Benefits for the MuseumsLab Programme 2024

For the onsite phases, the following program-related costs will be covered by the DAAD:

  • International and national transport to arrive to and depart from program locations (lowest possible economy class airfare and 2nd class train tickets)
  • Local public transport (if applicable) during Module 2, Module 3, and the Residencies
  • Airport transfers (Module 3 in Accra, Residencies in Africa if applicable)
  • Visa fees (for visa processes at official entities)
  • Health insurance (reimbursement up to 40 Euros)
  • Accommodation during the onsite Modules and Residency Locations
  • Programme-related entrance fees
  • Daily allowance during the onsite Modules and Residencies (limited compensation for meals not provided in the program)

Please note: All program-related travels and accommodations will also be arranged and booked by the DAAD.

 Eligibilities

  • Currently working in the museum, culture, and art sector
  • Practical experience of at least 2 years in a museum, heritage site, or art space, relating to themes such as Archaeology, Architecture, Art, Cultural History, Natural Sciences, and Technology
  • Commitment to the program
  • Sufficient English skills
  • Place of residence at the time of applying must be in Africa or Europe
