Be a part of the CERN Technical Student Programme! More than a mere work experience, it gives a student programme like nowhere else on Earth an impressive addition to your CV!

At CERN; the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe.

You will have the opportunity to work with advanced technology, contribute and broaden your knowledge in disciplines as varied as particle detector physics and their applications, analysis and simulation, data processing, radiation studies, beam instrumentation, optics, lasers, cryogenics, vacuum or thermodynamics.

Nevertheless, students specialising in theoretical or experimental particle physics are not eligible to apply for this programme.

Qualifications

  • applicant is a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • completed at least 18 months of your undergraduate studies (Bachelor or Master’s) at the time of the next student selection taking place in May 2022. Moreover, PhD students are not eligible.
  • You can stay for at least 4 and at most 12 months remaining registered as a full-time student.
  • In addition, have a good knowledge of English or French.

Additional Information

 CERN will provide you with the following in return for your contribution:

  • A contract of association from 4 to 12 months.
  • An allowance of 3319 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax)
  • Also, a travel allowance
  • Depending on your personal circumstances, you can also get a supplement if you are married and/or have children.
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive Health Insurance scheme
  • 2-5 days of paid leave per month.

Required documentation:

You will need the following documents, in English or French and in PDF format to complete your application:

  • A CV.
  • A copy of your most recent academic transcript giving an overview of your marks
  • A reference letter from your University Professor. You can also add one from a previous internship as a second reference.

You may upload the reference letter yourself, whilst submitting your application, or through your referee, via the link, you will receive shortly after submitting your application.

Tips for Application

Once you find your choice of program makes sure to follow the following:

  • Check the eligibility criteria and requirements, what documents to provide and what questions to answer to make sure your application is complete.
  • Make good use of the motivation section to explain why you want to join CERN, what you can bring to the Organization and in return what the Organization can bring to your career.
  • Also, make sure your CV is tailored to the position and put care into it.
  • You can add documents, such as a cover letter, references if you wish to.
