The Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) within the Leeds University is offering a number of internships to help to drive research activity across each of LIDA’s constituent areas: health informatics, urban analytics, statistical and mathematical methods, and visualization and immersive technologies. The LIDA internship program provides an outstanding opportunity to develop skills that are in high demand, both nationally and globally, within a growing, state-of-the-art facility. Our offer to interns includes the chance to:
Own delivery of 2 data science projects and get hands-on technical experience using real data;
Also, establish links with project partners (internal or external) and work to provide solutions to real-world challenges;
Build skills and knowledge in advanced analytics, not only through mentorship and applied research, but also through on-site training opportunities in statistical analysis, visualization, research methods, and computer programming;
Work alongside leading scholars as part of the LIDA team as well as gain valuable work experience.
What will the Data Analytics Interns do at Leeds University?
The Data Analytics Interns will have responsibilities including:
Helping to drive research activity across each of LIDA’s constituent areas: health informatics, urban analytics, statistical and mathematical methods, and visualization and immersive technologies;
Further, undertaking quantitative analysis on core datasets;
Planning own research activity in collaboration with the project investigators as well as other members of the research team;
Meeting with clients and partners in support of LIDA’s partnership-building efforts;
Participate in LIDA research meetings and seminars;
Also, Contribute to written outputs, including research papers, case studies and other materials for publication.
What qualifications do you need for Data Analytics Internships at Leeds University?
The Data Analytics internships at Leeds University will require interns to have:
Excellent all-round numerical skills that may have been gained in the context of quantitative social science, computing, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics, or population studies;
Completed an Undergraduate or Master’s degree in a relevant field;
A keen interest in using data to address real-life challenges using statistical or data analytic techniques;
Good time-management skills, for example, gained through project or dissertation work;
Good communication skills, both verbal and written;
Experience in writing reports and/ or presentation skills;
Also, a willingness to work as part of a team.
Further, the interns may also have the following requirements to gain an edge:
Experience of working with large unstructured data sets;
Knowledge of data science – description, prediction, and causal inference – using data analytic techniques: data visualization, machine learning, statistical modeling, or data mining;
Knowledge of a statistical programming language(s) and/or software for data manipulation and statistical computing;
A PhD in the field of quantitative social science, computing, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics or population studies
