Economist (Statistics [Expertise]) – STA (Contractual)
The successful candidate will contribute to STARE’s work program on national accounts. Areas of work include:
- contribute substantially to the development of a multi-regional input-output database and the developments of indicators such as trade-in-value-added (TiVA) and other supply-chain analysis;
- contribute to the development of international standards and/or promote the adoption of updated statistical methodologies, compilation materials, and/or related advice on national accounts;
- contribute to the development of high-frequency indicators of economic growth other innovative real sector statistics.
- manage the implementation of CD activities aimed at strengthening Fund members’ national accounts compilation programs, and its integration with Fund surveillance;
- develop, implement, and promote data analysis through the development of new data products, analytical papers, and research projects that support STA’s work program, including by showcasing national accounts databases and indicators.

- An advanced degree (Masters’ or PhD) in economics, statistics, or related field, with at least four (4) years of relevant experience.
- Expert knowledge in national accounts, with a solid grounding in quantitative analysis and experience in empirical national accounts’ measurement-oriented research.
- Proven expertise in national accounts methodology and compilation—demonstrated by at least five years professional experience—in at least one of the following domains: supply-use and input output accounts (preferred); annual and/or quarterly national accounts, institutional sector accounts, or development of thematic satellite accounts, such as distributional household income and consumption or measurement of the digital economy.
- Proven expertise in input-output analysis and the development of inter-country and regional input-output tables and associated development of indicators, such as TiVA.
- Proven programming ability in open-source software such as Python (preferred) or R.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. A working knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic would be an additional asset.
- Strong relationship management, negotiating and influencing skills, as well as developing relations with national authorities are important for the position.
- Ability to coordinate CD support with relevant Fund Departments, field experts, and with other international institutions and bilateral agencies is essential.
- Strong drive for results with proven ability to work both independently and in teams on projects under tight deadlines.
