The United Nations Department of Operational Support invites Architect to undertake an Engineering Internship at the office in New York.  The internship is in the Planning, Design, and Construction Section (PDCS) of the Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) of the Department of Operational Support. The internship will be unpaid and full-time. Moreover, the interns will for 5 days per week (35 hours, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday) up to three to six (3-6) months, depending on the Section’s needs.

Responsibilities 

Interns work five under the supervision of the Chief of PDCS and/ or a staff member in the Section to which the intern is assigned. The following are the duties that the intern will be performing

  • Assisting in reviewing existing floor plans and gift lists; measure and survey floors and record changes.
  • Similarly, assisting in updating database changes to records in Excel/AutoCAD and/ or paper records.
  • Assisting in updating Gift database changes for locations and info with Excel in binders or electronic folders.
  • Creating a list and organize gifts by floor plans, research files, and store in electronic folders.
  • Furthermore, performing other related duties as required.

Education Requirements 

Applicants for this Engineering Internship at United Nations must meet one of the following requirements:(1) enrollment in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);(2) enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or(3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year period of graduation. Preferably in the area of Architect/ Design/ Art History or Facilities Management degree program in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an Architect/ Design/ Art History or Facilities Management degree.

Other Requirements 

  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, including MS Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). In addition to that, knowledge of CAFM, Archibus or AutoCad is a plus.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and also should have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Professional work experience is not mandatory for participation in the program. Although work experience in an Architectural and/or Engineering studio or Facilities Management is an advantage.
