Stony Brook University Division of Student Affairs is seeking an eligible candidate to ful the Postdoctoral Fellowship position in Psychology. The postdoctoral psychology fellow provides psychological counseling (individual and group) and related clinical services (crisis intervention) for a culturally and ethnically diverse population of university students who experience a wide range of psychological problems and psychiatric conditions.

The postdoctoral fellow also provides outreach programming to the university community and works closely with the Center for Preventative Outreach on a weekly basis. Provides supervision to psychology interns and other trainees (e.g., practicum students) as assigned.

Key Duties

The candidate undertaking this Psychology Fellowship at Stony Brook University will do the following duties

  • Provides individual, group, and couple psychotherapy to a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate and HSC professional students experiencing a wide range of psychological and behavioral problems.
  • Provides intake/initial consultation, triage, mandated assessments, emergency/crisis intervention and referral services as needed.
  • Participates in community events and outreach functions, as assigned.
  • Meets state and federal professional standards (i.e., HIPAA) for keeping clinical records in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and provides evaluations for assigned psychology interns and externs.
  • Teaches didactic seminars to psychology trainees, as assigned.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an APA-Accredited Clinical or Counseling Ph.D or Psy.D program.
  • Anticipated completion of an APA-accredited doctoral internship by August 2021.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a university or college mental health setting with a diverse student body.
  • Experience providing group psychotherapy and risk assessment in an outpatient treatment setting.
  • Training and experience conducting workshops and/or outreach programming.
  • Experience supervising or teaching practicum students.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Korean, Japanese and/or Chinese.
