Applications call for 2020 Google Internship at Information Technology in Sydney, Australia

Summary 

The purpose of this 2020 Information Technology Internship at Google in Australia to provide exposure to the technology industry for students who are historically underrepresented in this field. Current students majoring in information systems, information technology, applied networking, system administration, and other majors with applicable experience are eligible for this internship.

Role 

The intern will join the Information Technology team of the Google Office in Sydney. The position will be the go-to person for Googlers’ computer hardware and software needs, providing front-line user support for all of Google’s internal tools and technologies. S/he will troubleshoot, respond to inquiries, and find solutions to technical challenges. The position will also solve the problem with multiple operating systems (e.g., OS X, Linux, Windows, etc.) and a range of devices (e.g., desktops/laptops, phone systems, video conferencing and various wireless devices, etc.). Additionally, the occasionally partner with various teams including Security, Networking and Infrastructure.

Key Duties 

The intern will be doing the following duties

• Completing a technical project with a team of Googlers and other interns.
• Attending training sessions to build your professional skills and to help set you up for success.
• Providing support for desktops/laptops, and user access to corporate network and applications, both on the network as well as through remote VPN access.
• Similarly, providing support for services such as office phones, mobile devices, video conferencing and remote access.
• Also, providing the basic corporate network infrastructure and server support.

Requirements

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related technical field of study.
• In addition to that, s/he must be a fast learner and a great communicator who can effectively support the IT needs of global offices of all sizes and Googlers of varying technical backgrounds.
• Candidates should be willing to return to a full-time degree for 6 – 12 months upon completing the internship.
• Experience in troubleshooting applications in one or more of the following networked environments like Linux, Mac, Windows is desirable.
• Ability to configure, upgrade and relocate PC hardware, software and print devices preferred. Similarly, demonstrated understanding of LAN/WAN environments preferred.
• Furthermore, candidates must be eligible to work in Australia.
