The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia ESWA of the United Nations invites application for the Information Systems and Communication Technology ICT Internship. The duration of an ESCWA internship is normally two months on a full-time basis. This may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the respective Division. However, Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.

What will the ICT Interns do at the United Nations?

Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the work of the ICT Policies Section, including Internet Governance; Cyberspace Legislations; Cybersecurity and Trust; Digital Technologies for Sustainable Development; Digital Economy; Fintech and Cryptocurrency; International Cooperation in the field of information society; other fields related to Digital technology innovations; ICT policy and ICT for development. Moreover, the intern will be responsible for carrying out:

  • Conducting research and analysis on issues relating to a range of topics, such as the Information Society; digital technologies and innovations for sustainable development; ICT policies; Internet governance; knowledge-based economies as well as other related ICT Policies areas of work;
  • Drafting relevant content for the production of promotional material related to the work and products of ICTPS, and other for posting on the website of the Organization, as well as its social media channels and performing quality control;
  • Attending and taking notes at expert group meetings and workshops;
  • Attending team meetings;
  • Performs other duties assigned.

What qualification do you need for United Nations ICT Internship?

To qualify for an internship with the UN ICT Internship programme, applicants must meet one of
the following requirements:

  • Be in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Be in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme.
  • Moreover, applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation are not eligible.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Further, applicants do not require having professional working experience for participation in the UN Internship Program
  • Fluency of English (both written and spoken) is desirable. Additionally, knowledge of French and Spanish is also desirable.
  • Also, Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds as well as beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

How to apply for an Internship at the United Nations?

Applicants may apply for the United Nations internship by submitting the online application. Further, the applicants will require a recent CV and cover letter to apply for the internship. Also, the interns may submit a relevant portfolio and documentation.

Interns, however, should note that they may submit only one PDF file via the online application portal. Hence, the applicants must merge all documents into one PDF file before uploading.

Deadline

Applicants may apply for the ICT Internship at United Nations until 16 September 2019. UN will not accept any more application after the past the deadline.
