- The Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC)/Non-Governmental Organizations Branch (NGO) internship is for two months.
- Also, it has the possibility of an extension, depending on the needs of the department.
Duties
- Review of applications of non-governmental organizations for consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC);
- Additionally, review of quadrennial reports presented by a non-governmental organization in special and general consultative status with ECOSOC;
- Similarly, internet research, including gathering background information and materials for the compilation and preparation of reports and studies, as needed;
- Also, translation of articles, speeches, letters and other documents into languages known or spoken by the candidate;
- Additionally, attend and provide support to relevant conferences, meetings, and events in the United Nations on issues involving non-governmental organizations, as deemed necessary by the supervising officer, and prepare summaries of those events; and
- Moreover, the incumbent provides administrative support to the Branch as needed.
Qualifications
The incumbent should meet the given criteria for the Internships at DESA in the USA
- Communication: Good written and oral language skills and the ability to draft clearly and concisely.
- Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
- Furthermore, he/she should be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Applicants need not have professional experience in participating in the program.
- Also, English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of French is a benefit.
Education
1)The candidate should be enrolled in a graduate school program, or
2) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program, or
3) have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation
