The Investment Officer Internship 2025 – Geothermal Energy at the World Bank plays a crucial role in advancing sustainable energy solutions worldwide. Role and Responsibilities:

The Investment Officer – Geothermal Energy will work with IFC’s regional and industry teams to develop and implement investment and advisory programs for geothermal energy networks in the MCT region. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing a strong investment and advisory pipeline focused on shallow geothermal energy networks for heating and cooling solutions.
• Leveraging expertise in utility/network businesses to deploy scalable geothermal solutions.
• Engaging clients to deliver IFC’s value, optimize risk-return profiles, and drive development impact.
• Structuring innovative financial models and negotiating business transactions.
• Conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance, and identifying areas for improvement.
• Collaborating with IBRD and other IFIs on sector engagement and joint initiatives.
• Mentoring junior team members and actively managing portfolio and client relationships.

Selection Criteria for Investment Officer Internship 2025

• Master’s degree education, including at a minimum a bachelor’s in engineering (preferably energy) and a Master’s in Business, Finance, or Economics.
• At least eight years of relevant experience in infrastructure, particularly utility-scale distribution networks for heating or cooling; water; or geothermal energy, including financial solutions. Strong understanding of infrastructure sectors, such as power, utilities/networks, and natural resources.
• A proven track record of implementing scalable actual projects involving shallow geothermal energy networks.
• Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, financial and technical partners, as well as senior government officials.
• Genuine commitment to development and to the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy, and values.
• Capacity to innovate and challenge the status quo.
• Strong business development, asset management, and client relationship skills demonstrated by track record and ability to focus on clients’ needs effectively.
• Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners.
• Excellent people skills, openness to feedback, new ideas, and ability to guide and motivate others. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Fluency in other languages such as Russian, Arabic, or Turkish would be a plus.
