UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives, defend their rights and help them fulfill their potential. As such, UNICEF offers an internship at its Health Section. Moreover, the internship will support the activities of UNICEF’s Implementation Research and Delivery Science (IRDS) Unit, which is working closely with UNICEF’s Immunization Unit. The overall objectives are:
- to support UNICEF’s efforts to improve equity in immunization and other health programs with high-quality, relevant and practical research
- Further, to develop a better understanding of UNICEF’s Health programming work, particularly to help countries design and implement evidence-based, equity-focused health systems, policies, and programs.
- Also, gain exposure to how UNICEF operates across its global offices.
What will the Interns do at UNICEF Health Section?
At UNICEF’s Health Section, the intern will work to provide operational and technical assistance across a range of areas that will support the equity and immunization work including:
- Conducting equity-focused analyses of existing immunization data
- Conducting related evidence-reviews on at least one priority immunization and equity topics such as gender-related barriers to immunization, children affected by conflict, children living in urban poor areas, or children living in remote rural areas.
- Providing support to convene a consultation between UNICEF and other global partners to identify metrics for gender-related barriers to immunization.
What do you need for UNICEF Internship at Health Section?
- Be currently enrolled in an academic graduate program relevant to global public health
- Have basic knowledge of maternal, newborn and child health issues and of health programs in low and middle-income countries, and ideally with specific exposure to community health topics
- Have work experience in the field of global health is a strong asset
- Possess excellent English proficiency. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
How to apply for an Internship at the UNICEF?
Applicants may apply for the UNICEF internship by submitting the online application. Further, the applicants will require to attach the following documentation:
- Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently an undergraduate student. Further, the student should have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree; or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master’s, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.
- Likewise, a copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance
- Further, a copy of Identification Card (ID)
- Also, one letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from a professional email address
