The AAI Salzburg (Afro Asiatisches Institut) offers One World Scholarship Program to students pursuing a Masters degree or PhD degree in Austria. Moreover, it is a partial scholarship program that aims students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who have come to Austria on their own initiative, in order to complete their education. Prospective awardees are required to focus on questions related to development in their studies and research

Who is eligible for the One World Scholarship Program?

  • nationality of a non-European developing country
  • admission to a Master or PhD program at a university or university of applied sciences in Salzburg or Tyrol (Uni Salzburg, Uni Innsbruck, FH Salzburg, MCI, FH Kufstein)
  • for PhD students: approved disposition
  • Candidates for the Masters studies must meet the age limit of max. 30 years (mothers: 35 years) while that for the PhD studies the max. age limit is 35 years (mothers: 40 years) at the time of application
  • residence permit “student”

However, the students are not eligible for the One World Scholarship should they:

  • study at private universities
  • postgraduate study program (“Lehrgänge”, e.g. “Universitätslehrgang” or “Fachhochschullehrgang”) or other non-degree certificate programs
  • applicants  with a residence title other than “student”
  • non-degree program students („außerordentliche Studierende“)
  • short term visits and exchange programs

Selection Criteria

Financial need

Applicants must demonstrate their own income, savings, other means of support, profession and income of parents are not sufficient to cover their finances during the study period.

Evidence of good progress in studies

Good study progress documented by transcript of records of current and past studies. In programs without entry exams, students who have already completed at least one semester at an Austrian university have a distinctive advantage.

Interest in development and according specialization in studies

Further, prospective awardees should show a strong interest in development related issues reflected in the choice of study fields, prior work experience, voluntary activities etc.

How to Apply for  AAI Salzburg One World Scholarship Program?

To apply for the AAI Salzburg Scholarship program, applicants will require to send their complete application documents via email. The selection committee will review the application, and shortlist candidates for interview. Further, shortlisted candidates will require to attend an interview session for the final evaluation. Applicants may either take in-person interview or Skype interview.

Scholarship committee will decide up on the suitable candidate for the scholarship by mid August. Shortly, the successful applicants will receive the notification regarding the AAI Salzburg One World Scholarship.
