Apply for Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders. The Africa Energy Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders is an education venture to invest in the next generation of energy leaders who will deliver sustainable access to energy and ultimately a zero-carbon Africa.

The ambition of the Program is to train recent graduates of Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building / Construction Engineering, Physics, and Solar Energy on core aspects of Renewable Energy Technology and opportunities for career advancement in the energy value chain.

Summary

The goal is to churn out a competent workforce for the renewable energy industry and build entrepreneurs who will advance access to clean energy to 600 Million in Africa without Access and retain young African talent in a crucial sector like renewable energy, of paramount importance to unlock Africa’s sustainable future. The program offers the knowledge of international experts on four groups of renewable energy technologies:

  • Solar PV (utility-scale and small-scale)
  • Onshore Wind
  • Bioenergy
  • Small-scale Hydropower

With regards to three core aspects:

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

And with a focus on Africa

The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) is an education venture initiated by The Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute in Partnership with RETTI Virtual University, government agencies, top Academic institutions, and private sector companies.

Program Structure

The 16-week fellowship will include expert training sessions facilitated across mentioned learning areas. The goal is to pass on knowledge and deep understanding of the areas to enable participants to get empowered and gain clarity to create solutions in the area or serve as competent employees or pursue a higher degree program. Fellows will be encouraged to come up with tech solutions to identified problems.

They will design a prototype of this solution or some sort of formal presentation; at the end of their fellowship, they will pitch their solution and the top 5-7 will be selected at the end of the fellowship for awards, Internships or absorption into incubation programs.

There will be four thematic training areas for selected fellows, namely

Hydropower Learning Program

  • Economics
  • Financing

Windpower and Turbine Learning Program

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

Solar Power and Photovoltaics Learning Program:

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

Bioenergy Learning Program

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

Economics and Finance Renewable Energy

  • Renewable Energy Finance and Management
  • Renewable energy Economics

Eligibility

  • Are between the ages of 21 and 30 on or before the application deadline.
  • Are graduates of Physics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance/Accounting, Physics and Solar Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Building, and Construction Engineering.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
