Details

Apply for the Canada ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) 2022. The main aim of the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program is to reduce poverty in the developing countries of ASEAN and in so doing, achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These program scholarships, as well as educational exchanges, will contribute towards all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in particular, two SDGs namely, Goal 5 and Goal 13:

  • Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
  • Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program, therefore, provides student applicants, from member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with short-term exchange opportunities. Students will have the chance to study or carry out research in Canada at a post-secondary institution at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

Benefits from Canada ASEAN Scholarships 

The Canadian institution where you will carry out your exchange will receive funding from DFATD for all successful candidates in the form of a contribution agreement and will be responsible for providing the funds to scholarship recipients. The scholarship value for students is as described below:

  • An amount worth CAD 10,200 for college, undergraduate, or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research
  • Amount worth CAD 12,700 for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research
  • Am amount worth CAD 15,900 for undergraduate and college students for a period of eight months or two academic terms of study or research.

The above scholarship funds will be disbursed by Canadian institutions to the scholarship recipient to contribute to the following costs:

  • Your visa and/or study/work permit fees.
  • Funds will cover your airfare to Canada by the most direct and economical route and return airfare upon completion of the scholarship.
  • Coverage for your health insurance while in Canada.
  • Your living expenses include accommodation, utilities, and food for the duration of your stay.
  • Coverage for ground transportation expenses, including a public transportation pass.
  • Expenses related to books and supplies required for your study or research, excluding computers and other equipment.

Eligibility Required for  Canada ASEAN Scholarships 

  • Applicants must be citizens/ Nationals of the following ASEAN member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)), Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam.
  • You must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in one of the participating countries at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be able to choose a field of study or research that is aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • You must behave sufficient proficiency in the language of instruction at the Canadian institution (English or French) before their arrival in Canada.
  • Your exchange or research must not be related to pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, or other health fields
  • Applicants must not hold any other scholarship granted by the Government of Canada.

Application Instructions of Canada ASEAN Scholarships 

  • Interested applicants must first contact their home institution and should submit a letter of intent that explains how their studies/research in Canada will enable them to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in their future career to help combat poverty and narrow the development gap in the ASEAN region.
  • Your home institution will be responsible for identifying strong academic candidates who meet the admission requirements for the Canadian partner institution and providing the candidates’ documents to the Canadian partner institution.
  • The Canadian institution will have to apply on behalf of the candidate(s) by submitting the online application form and uploading all supporting documents prior to the deadline.

The host institutions will require the following documents.

  • Your proof of citizenship
  • Proof of full-time enrolment at your home institution
  • A Letter of intent from the applicant
  • Letter of support from your home institution
  • A Letter of invitation from your prospective Canadian supervisor
  • Lastly, Signed copy of Memorandum of Understanding or Agreement with the partner institution
