The Dalai Lama Foundation announces its eighth round of annual graduate scholarship grants for the academic year  2019-20. Ten to eighteen exceptional candidates of Tibetan descent will be selected to receive scholarship awards of up to US$10,000.

Dalai Lama Foundation established the graduate scholarship with the purpose of furthering the human capital development of the Tibetan people by providing scholarships to eighteen exceptional students of Tibetan descent. Moreover, the students will pursue graduate studies in a field of their choice. The Foundation offers scholarships with the intent to alleviate the cost of graduate education. Further, it is aware that the scholarship cannot cover the full tuition for any student. The Foundation provides the scholarships on behalf of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama who has designated and endowed the Dalai Lama Foundation as a proper vehicle to assist humanity.

Benefit

Successful candidates will receive a scholarship an amount of US$5,000 and US$10,000. Moreover, the students should demonstrate excellence within their chosen fields. Further, their future career plans should embrace both, the Tibetan culture of Compassion and Wisdom. Also, the candidate must commit to giving back to their communities as well as benefit humanity.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must have already been enrolled in or be accepted to a full-time graduate degree program at a university in Australia, Europe or the Americas.
  2. Likewise, the candidates must show proof of Tibetan heritage and continuity of Dhanglang Chatrel (Green Book) contribution
  3. Further, the Applicants are solely and directly responsible for obtaining the necessary visas to attend the university of their choice
  4. Eligible candidates must be pursuing graduate studies, whether at the master’s or Ph.D. level or at a professional school
  5. One year or multi‐year, full-time courses of graduate programs from reputable and credible universities are eligible

How To Apply

Application for the Dali Lama graduate scholarship is available online. Any Candidates wishing to apply for the scholarship may fill the online form and upload these documents:

  • Photograph of applicant
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Likewise, Two essay responses (refer to Application Form section 6. Essays)
  • Official undergraduate transcript record
  • Copy of acceptance letter or enrollment form for intended graduate institution
  • Also, Three signed written letters of recommendation (at least two academic references). Referees must send the reference letters directly via e-mail
  • Copy of valid Dhanglang Chatrel (Green Book) with contribution paid up to 2018 (1st page, 2nd page & last contribution paid page)

Deadline

Applicants must send the complete application form, along with all supporting documents through online on or before April 30, 2019 (11:59 PM USA Eastern Time). However, applications received after the deadline are rejected. We will notify the reception of application via email. Shortlisted applicants will undergo an interview via Skype or phone interview. We will announce the recipients on July 6, 2019.
