The Doug Banks Renewable Energy Vision (DBREV) Trustees are pleased to offer a scholarship towards a two-year full-time postgraduate degree. Further,  in the field of Renewable Energy in Africa, to be taken up at a South African University starting in 2020. The aim of the DBREV Trust is to identify, support and mentor bright young people. Who have a desire to help solve the Energy Poverty challenges of Africa.

Further, The central expectation of the Scholarship is that each Scholar’s work contributes to their knowledge. Also,  understanding of issues and technologies related to the provision of Renewable Energy solutions. Further,  to communities that otherwise have limited or no access to energy resources, in an African context. Also, applicants will be that the focus of their proposed course of study will be to advance this key expectation.

Scholarship

  • The Scholarship is to be towards tuition fees and a living allowance. Further, some additional support for equipment, field trips or conferences may be awarded at the discretion of the Trustees.
  • Further, a special feature of this scholarship is the additional opportunity of mentorship by experts in the field, many of whom were colleagues of Dr. Doug Banks.

Eligibility

  • Open only to South African citizens or permanent residents and may only be to study at a South African University
  • Likewise, Students in the disciplines of engineering, built environment, technology, science, or law are welcome to apply
  • Applicants should be commit to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing the challenges posed by Climate Change

Selection Criteria

Selection will be on the basis of evident passion and commitment to the use of renewable energy. Which is in Africa especially in relieving Energy Poverty, together with academic merit. The successful candidate will be to help carry forward the vision of the DBREV Trust and be willing to act as a mentor to future DBREV Scholarship recipients.
