The Forrest Research Foundation at the University of Western Australia invites domestic as well as international applicants to apply for the fellowships. The foundation was established in 2014 following the donation of $65 million, over 10 years, by Andrew and Nicola Forrest, through the Minderoo Foundation. Their donation is to assist Western Australia in becoming a world-class center of research and innovation through attracting the next generation of outstanding intellects to Western Australia.

The Forrest Foundation Research Fellowships attracts international intellects and assist them to become outstanding early-career post-doctoral researchers to undertake high-quality research at a Western Australian University. Forrest Fellows will be persons of exceptional ability and resourcefulness, having the highest caliber of academic achievement and with potential to make a positive difference to the world. They will help build a world-class research and innovation capacity in Western Australia.

The Forrest Research Foundation Fellowships Include

  • Salary consistent with a Level A Step 8 appointment (for example The University of Western Australia Salary Scales approximately $93,000 in salary plus 17% superannuation)
  • An accommodation allowance of $20,697 per annum in 2019 (subject to marginal tax rate)
  • A once off relocation and research travel allowance of $13,000

Forrest Fellows will provide up to 1 day per week to advance the general mission of the Forrest Research Foundation including providing mentoring, ambassadorial and leadership to Forrest Scholars, Forrest Hall and the Forrest Research Foundation. The foundation may consider an appointment at Level B the employing university supports the appointment.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply applicants must be in their final year of PhD or no more than two years post PhD conferral.

  • Applicants must reside at Forrest Hall for the duration of the Fellowship.
  • Applicants must be intending to meet the requirements of a Forrest Fellow. The requirement includes mentoring of Forrest Scholars as well as ambassadorial duties. Also, they should comply with providing leadership within Forrest Hall.
  • Applicants must meet employment eligibility conditions at the nominated university.

Furthermore, researchers from all disciplines are eligible to apply.

Moreover, the applicants may accept the fellowship only if they:

  • have been offered and accepted an employment contract at a Western Australian university
  • have received their PhD conferral before taking up their appointment
  • take up the Forrest Fellowship and commence employment at the relevant university within 12 months of receiving the fellowship
  • agree to report their progress to the Forrest Research Foundation Warden and the Minderoo Foundation each year.

Application procedure

Applicants may submit applications for Forrest Research Foundation Fellowships before the advertised closing date.

Applications must include the following documentation in order to be considered

  • a completed online application form submitted through the Forrest Foundation website
  • A Curriculum Vitae (maximum 4 pages)
  • Publications list
  • Grants and awards list
  • An impact statement of no more than 1,000 words, which addresses
  • The Selection Criteria listed in Clause 10
  • An explanation of the applicant’s desire to make a difference with their research
  • Contact details for four referees (two personal and two academics)
  • Photograph.
