The AIMS Master’s in Mathematical Sciences is a ten month program with two intakes each year (January and August). The curriculum runs over 3 semesters described below. There is an oral defense of the research project at the end of the academic year followed by a graduation ceremony.

Applications are open for South African and SADC students ONLY and the rest of the Pan African students can apply on 1 December.

The purpose of the research project is:

1. to give students the opportunity to work with an expert supervisor on a research project;
2. Also, to go through the process of independently reviewing, understanding and explaining scientific or mathematical material

Eligibility Criteria

The January intake of the AIMS Structured Master’s in Mathematical Sciences is open to students following the South African academic calendar (January to December). Preference will be given to South African nationals.  Additionally, applicants should hold, or anticipate completing by the start date of the AIMS course, a 4-year university degree in mathematics, or any science or engineering subject with a significant mathematics component.
