The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fully funded CAORC Senior Research Fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities. Fellowship awards are for four to six consecutive months (i.e. you can hold the fellowship for four, five, or six consecutive months). Furthermore, the selected fellows receive an award of $5,000 per month.

Fellows can choose among any of the fields relating to humanities including history, philosophy, religious studies, literature, literary criticism, and visual and performing arts. In addition, NEH prefers research that embraces a humanistic approach and methods.

Applicants must propose four consecutive months of research in an American overseas research center. Moreover, the applicants can choose from countries: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Cyprus, Georgia; Indonesia, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Senegal, Sri Lanka or Tunisia. Fellows may travel and carry out research for four to six consecutive months between the period of May 2020 to November 2021. Also, the fellows should note that they must work on their research full-time during their period of funding.

Fully Funded CAORC Research Fellowship

The recipient of CAORC Research Fellowship awards will receive $5,000 per month to provide support towards living expenses.

Eligibility for the CAORC Research Fellowship

To be eligible for the fully funded CAORC Research Fellowship:

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who residing in the U.S. for three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Further, applicants must hold a PhD.
  • However, funding is not available for research conducted in the U.S.
  • Nor applicants require an affiliation with a U.S. academic institution to apply.
  • NEH strongly encourages minority scholars and scholars from Minority Serving Institutions to apply.

How to apply for the CAORC Research Fellowship

Applicants can access the application for CAORC Research Fellowship online. You must sign up for an account to access the application materials. This will allow you to save and return to your application before submitting. While submitting the application, the applicants must also submit:

  • Project Description: In 1500 words or less, please describe the nature of your proposed project and your competence to carry out the required research. State your research question and the methods and procedures you will use to conduct your research. Be sure to describe the proposed methodology in clear terms. Give the reasons why your project requires your presence in the countries indicated, and note the facilities (e.g. libraries, museums, archives, field sites) that you plan to use while conducting your research.
  • Project Bibliography/Literature Review: You must submit a one-page bibliography or literature review outlining your project resources.
  • Letters of Recommendation: You must have two (2) letters of recommendation.  You will be able to send a link to your recommenders where they will be able to upload their letters. All references must be in English.  Recommendations letters will be confidential in the system. The applicant is responsible for checking in with their recommenders to ensure the letters are submitted in time.
  • Curriculum Vitae: Three (3) pages maximum.

Deadline

NEH accepts the application for the fully funded CAORC Research Fellowship until January 23, 2020. Applications arriving after the deadline are ineligible for the fellowship.
