Applications are now open for Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University 2020. McGill University in association with the Mastercard Foundation offering full scholarships to economically challenged, academically gifted Master’s students from Sub-Saharan Africa through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, 2020. This scholarship program sponsors outstanding, community-engaged students to attend university who otherwise would not have the opportunity. Thereby, the Mastercard Foundation is fostering the development of future Sub-Saharan African leaders and entrepreneurs.

A central goal of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is to create a globally educated and highly qualified group of future leaders, who, upon graduation, can return to Africa to help foster the region’s development. Toward these ends, McGill complements Scholars’ education with a comprehensive support system that includes mentorship, tailored support services, community service opportunities and sustained programming relevant to their personal development. Scholars also receive guidance and funding for two internships in their home countries during their studies.

The Mastercard Foundation provides financial support to Scholars studying at McGill University. Further, scholars will have an opportunity to indulge with a comprehensive support network that includes an array of mentoring and support services to ensure each student’s academic success, community service engagement, and transition to socially relevant employment opportunities.

Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2020 McGill University

Mastercard Foundation will exempt the tuition fee of the candidates of the 2020 Scholars Program at McGill University. Further, the foundation will also cover the living expenses of students for the duration of their Master’s Program.

Eligibility for Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship is an extensive scholarship opportunity for African students, available on a competitive basis. Hence, the candidates are eligible for the scholarship if:

  1. Be admissible to one of the eligible programs at McGill University
  2. Have never registered for /completed any graduate studies;
  3. Be nominated by a current McGill Professor or Staff Member from the department you wish to apply to
  4. Be a citizen of and have lived a significant part of your life in a Sub-Saharan African Country
  5. Have an exceptional record of service and activity in your school and/or community;
  6. Similarly, have an intent to return to your country immediately upon the completion of your degree with the goal of transforming your community through social and economic development;
  7. Demonstrate that your financial status is in the lowest two quintiles of your country.
  8. Must be less than 35 years old at the time of application

How to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program?

Before applying to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, candidates must gain admission to one of the listed Master’s programs at McGill University. In order to apply for the master’s degree program, the candidates must complete the online application form. However, prior to that, the applicant must consult the departmental requirements as well as the standard graduate admission requirements, to verify that they are eligible to apply.

If the candidates meet the requirement, s/he may request a nomination from the department via email. In order to validate the nomination, the candidate must submit:

University Transcript
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Short Personal Statement (max. 350 words)

Once nominated, the applicant will be issued a fee waiver and should complete the admission application in uApply. They should upload the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Application Form, sponsor letter and bank statement to the uApply checklist. Further, the applicant should request their Referee to complete the MCFSP Recommendation form and return the completed form by email.

Deadline

The Mastercard Foundation accepts the application for the 2020 Scholars Program at McGill University until 31 January 2020.
