The Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship 2027–2028 offers accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, journalists, and other professionals an opportunity to spend an academic year at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. The fellowship supports individuals who are developing innovative projects and provides them with time, resources, and an interdisciplinary environment to advance their work.

Fellows spend the academic year in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as part of a diverse community of scholars and practitioners. The program is designed for established professionals rather than students and welcomes applications across the humanities, social sciences, creative arts, journalism, nonfiction, science, engineering, and mathematics.

Eligibility for the Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship

The program is intended for established professionals with a strong record of achievement. Eligibility requirements vary according to the applicant’s discipline.

Applicants in the humanities and social sciences generally need to have received their doctorate or equivalent qualification at least four years before the fellowship appointment and meet the program’s publication requirements. Applicants in science, engineering, and mathematics must generally have received their doctorate at least four years earlier and have an established research record.

Creative arts, journalism, and nonfiction applicants have separate professional achievement requirements.

Current degree students are not eligible, and the fellowship is not intended as a postdoctoral program.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the online application through the Harvard Radcliffe Institute and submit the required supporting materials. These generally include:

• 1,400-word project proposal
• Required writing, research, or creative work sample
• Contact information for three referees
• Additional materials depending on the applicant’s discipline

Application Deadline

The deadline varies by discipline for the 2027–2028 fellowship cycle. Applications in Science, Engineering and Mathematics remain open until October 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET. The deadline for most other fields was September 10, 2026.
