Apply for Hourly Research Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University. VCU invites you to apply for our Hourly Research Fellow position in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. It is seeking highly motivated synthetic organic chemists and medicinal chemists to join a comprehensive drug discovery program in the lab of Dr. Yan Zhang.

The position entails conducting highly interdisciplinary research focused on pre-clinical development of novel drug candidates, which covers the chemical synthesis, medicinal chemistry, biochemical and biophysical assays, and molecular modeling. Daily responsibilities of the position include involvement in the design and synthesis of small molecules targeting G-protein coupled receptors. The incumbent will also perform biological characterization of novel lead compounds to develop drug candidates in treating various types of diseases, including substance abuse and addiction, cancer, AIDS, and neurological disorders.

Qualifications

Candidate on this Hourly Research Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University will have the following qualifications

  • PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a lab setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Extensive experience in designing synthetic routes for novel compounds, solving challenging synthetic problems, and SAR analysis.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.
