Max Planck Institute Research scholarships enable highly qualified researchers from abroad who already obtained a PhD to either develop a new research topic in a thematically relevant context or to pursue an already existing project. Moreover, to receive this sponsorship applicant’s planned project topic should be compatible with a current field and research focus at the institute.

These MPIE Research Scholarships are aimed at established researchers from abroad, whose projects expand and enrich MPIE´s own research fields through the scholarship holder´s international research perspective. In particular, they help to deepen existing co-operation with research institutes from abroad and to develop new joint research projects.

Value

The Research Scholars will receive a full scholarship which includes the coverage of their tuition fees. Also, they will receive a monthly stipend as well as research allowance as per the rules and regulations of this scholarship.

Requirements for Max Planck Institute Research Scholarships

• You have obtained an outstanding PhD in materials science, physics or a related subject.
• You can apply for entry within our guest program at any time.
• However, due to capacity reasons, Max Planck Institute only offer a limited number of research scholarships.
• Candidates seeking the scholarships can be of any nationality
• However excellent spoken and written English skills are mandatory.

The Application

The application for Research Scholarships will require applicants to send the following documents.

• Scientific CV incl. publication list
• A description of your current or planned research project that you plan to perform with us (max. 2 pages)
• Two papers related to your planned project
• At least two reference letters from former supervising professors
• The tie connecting your research project to the actual main focus of our Institute should be made clear

Applicants must send these documents three months prior to their planned stay. Moreover, applicants should send their applications directly to the research departments they are applying for. Further, the applicants may send a hard copy of their applications or send it via email.

Deadline

Max Planck Institute keeps the application open for Research Scholarships throughout the year. However, the institute advises applicants to apply for the scholarship three months prior to their planned stay.
